Anyone else hear about what's going on with replacing the current club system in DA?
Basically, they'll be three tiers of groups/clubs:
> Basic Group (unsubscribed)
> Super Group (subscribed)
> Pro Group (subscribed at a higher rate)
The groups system includes several needed upgrades including the ability for each member to chip in a small amount for the subscription rather than having a single person pay the full amount.
However, there are some restrictions that are currently in place for groups that do not exist for clubs. The number of group members (groupies) that can be added to any Basic Group is 100. That means that only 100 members can contribute art to a group. If you are not among the first 100 people to join the group, you cannot post art to the club. You can however still watch the group like you can any other account.
The full list (and most recently updated list) of restrictions can be found here:

(And boy, people are!)
Myself? I appreciate the effort to create more official qualifications for a club/group besides tweaking a personal DA account-so many people start a club, then let it die a few weeks later. I understand subscriptions are how DA is able to offer free services for personal accounts.
But still I disagree with the 100 limit for unsubscribed groups. If only 100 people are allowed to participate, that means everyone who wants to join after that will have to start their own group that offers the same services. Very quickly there could be dozens of full groups and all do the exact same thing, and the people who are willing to pay for subscriptions are supporting all of them.
So why not have members all pitch a few dollars to cover the subscription for one Super or Pro group? No reason at all, if you're able to get 100 people willing to pay up in the original group. What if you create a Super or Pro group with a lot of members, but only a few pay their dues? Will there be a mechanism that allows you to ban the freeloaders? Given how easily drama unfolds on DA, I can see increased flaming and protesting for small things like that.
Besides, the main reason I join clubs is so I can increase the chances of more people visiting my account without paying for advertising. If I have the choice to pay to promote a group of 1000+ people's artwork or pay to promote just my own, I'll choose myself. I'm selfish that way.
...Too bad I'm broke.
